Evans School Ranked in Top Ten By U.S. News and World Report
In the newly released U.S. News and World Report rankings of graduate schools of public affairs, the Evans School is ranked ninth out of 266 schools of public affairs and fourth among public universities.
This is a jump of five spots from 2008’s overall ranking of 14th, and 17 spots from 2004’s overall ranking of 26th.
The Evans School has also been recognized for its expertise in the areas of Nonprofit Management (ranked third), Environmental Policy and Management (ranked sixth), Public Management Administration (ranked 11th), and Public Policy Analysis (ranked 13th).
Evans School Earns Top Ranking from Peace Corps

Among Peace Corps’ Master’s International (PCMI) programs, the Evans School ranks third for total number of Peace Corps volunteers, according to a recent announcement. Twenty-six PCMI students are currently enrolled at the Evans School. The program provides students an opportunity to complete their Master of Public Administration in conjunction with two years of international volunteer service work. Nationwide, 80 universities participate in the PCMI program.
Evans School Assists UW Sustainability Efforts
Evans School students and faculty are helping the University of Washington (UW) maintain a national reputation as a leader in on-campus environmental sustainability.
The Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability office awarded a Husky Green Award to student Justin Hellier (MPA ’12) last Thursday. And on Friday, in an article about environmental projects at the UW, the Seattle Times quoted student Jamie Rowe (MPA ’13), Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF) coordinator.
Last year Sierra Magazine, which is published by the Sierra Club, ranked UW the most environmentally friendly university in the nation.
Evans School Dean Sandra O. Archibald is the chair of the Environmental Stewardship Committee, which oversees decisions about environmental efficiency and cost-effectiveness at UW.

Faculty Roundtable, "How Philanthropy Can Build Enterprising Nonprofits," a Resounding Success
Evans School faculty members David Harrison, Justin Marlowe, Mary Kay Gugerty, President of REDF Carla Javits, and Dean Archibald. 
The Evans School held “How Philanthropy Can Build Enterprising Nonprofits,” second in a series of faculty roundtables celebrating the school's 50th anniversary, on March 14. The well-attended roundtable opened with a presentation by Carla Javits, president of the Roberts Enterprise Development Fund (REDF), a San Francisco-based venture philanthropy organization that creates jobs and employment opportunities for people facing the greatest barriers to work. Javits detailed some of the ways that the major sectors of society (government, nonprofit, philanthropy, business) are changing, with divides among these institutions blurring.
Moderator David Harrison, senior lecturer, expertly led the panel through a discussion of Javits' talk. Assistant Professor Justin Marlowe responded by highlighting the opportunity to make capital markets more effective; Associate Professor Mary Kay Gugerty outlined the need for tools to encourage transparency among the nonprofit sector; and Associate Professor Sanjeev Khagram pushed for focus on “scaled impact.”

Pradeep Singh Advances to Ph.D. Candidacy
Evans School Ph.D. student Pradeep Singh advanced to Ph.D. candidacy on March 16. Singh's committee includes Professor Ann Bostrom (chair), Professor C. Leigh Anderson, Associate Professor Mark Long, Associate Professor Christopher Parker (political science), and Professor Thomas Richardson (statistics).Singh will now move towards the completion of his dissertation, titled “Essays on Intertemporal Choice under Uncertainty: A Behavioral Approach.”
Congratulations to Pradeep, the fourth Ph.D. student to advance to candidacy at the Evans School this quarter.
