Stuart asks:

How big a factor is the GRE in admissions? What range of scores is the admission committee looking for?

Alan responds:

To answer your question I've consulted with our Admissions Director Jesse Knappenberger.

The Evans School admissions committee takes a holistic approach to the admissions process, decisions are not made based solely on one factor. Parts of the application, such as GRE scores, might carry more or less weight depending on other factors (past coursework, professional experience, etc.). Strong GRE scores can go a long way to demonstrating that you have the ability to succeed in our core coursework, especially the microeconomics and statistics courses.

Average GRE scores of students admitted last year were:

  • 650 quantitative
  • 580 verbal
  • 4.5 analytical

Please keep in mind this is just an average; we admitted applicants with lower than average scores and we denied applicants with higher than average scores.  In general, test scores in the 50% or higher will be competitive for admission.

Please don't hesitate to email Jesse at evansrec@uw.edu with any other questions about the GRE or our admissions process.
