Our one-year Nonprofit Management Certificate program gives you the tools and frameworks needed to meet the increasing challenges facing the nonprofit sector today. Nonprofit Management Certificate Program students are drawn from diverse departments from across the university, giving the core classes a distinctive, interdisciplinary perspective on the unique issues facing the nonprofit community.
The program explores the challenges of organizational and regulatory environments through a curriculum that includes:
- Three required core courses that provide students with the analytical and managerial foundation needed to pursue a wide range of academic and professional opportunities in nonprofit management.
- PBAF 550 – Management of Nonprofit Organizations
- PBAF 553 – Nonprofit Financial Management (requires a prior budgeting or financial management course)
- PBAF 551 – Program Development and Strategy for Nonprofit Organizations
- Two elective courses in management, leadership, or policy analysis, chosen from an approved list of electives that broaden the basic knowledge base for nonprofit management. Please email nmcp@uw.edu to request a copy of the elective list.
Our program also offers the chance to develop networking relationships with guest speakers who are practitioners and professionals working in the local nonprofit community.
The program is open to all UW graduate students after their first year of study. We have a recommended sequence of how to progress through the program for an optimal learning experience with your cohort class, but you can also complete it out of sequence and double-count home department requirements for the elective credits.
Applications are accepted once a year; the deadline for 2011 is April 22.
