Mari Hickman and Michael Foote Make it to Final Round of GSEC

Second-year MPA students Mari Hickman and Michael Foote with teammate Patrick Tsao made it to the final round of this year’s Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition (GSEC) at the Foster School of Business with a project called MiNGO focused on financially supporting NGOs in Latin America by creating a network of former international volunteers similar to how college alumni organizations work.

Hickman and Foote’s project was one of five that advanced to the final rounds from an original competition of 15.

“It was a wonderful experience overall. We learned a lot about writing and presenting a business plan, and had a really good time in the process,” Foote said. “We're looking forward to moving the idea forward, and have some additional applications out there as well as a number of interested contacts from GSEC.”

Hickman was quoted in an article in The Daily about the competition. She also thanked the Evans School faculty, staff, and students for their encouragement and support. “To everyone who watched us in the final round and/or emailed us with encouragement, thank you!"
