Evans School Receives Magnuson Award
The Evans School accepted the 2009 Warren G. Magnuson Memorial Award at the Municipal League of King County's Civic Awards on Wednesday, March 25. This is the first time the award, which honors significant contributions to the enhancement of local government, has been given to an organization.More Than $1 Million Received in Research Grants Since February
Evans School faculty members and research centers were awarded more than $1 million total in grants since February. Grant recipients include C.Leigh Anderson, Joaquin Herranz, Jr., Rachel Garshick Kleit, Richard Brandon, and Richard O. Zerbe, Jr.
Alumnus Paul Rucker to Lead UW Alumni Association
The University of Washington Alumni Association has announced that Paul Rucker will become executive director and associate vice president of alumni relations when current head Chuck Blumenfeld retires in May. Rucker earned an MPA at the Evans School and is also a member of our Visiting Committee. Rachel Garshick Kleit Named an Associate Editor of the Journal of Urban Affairs
Rachel Garshick Kleit will assume an associate editor role starting with Volume 31, Issue 3 of the Journal of Urban Affairs, a top-ranked publication for the Urban Affairs Association that is one of the most widely cited in its field.Travis William Reynolds Published in Ecological Economics
A paper co-authored by Ph.D. student Travis William Reynolds titled “Investing in Human and Natural Capital: An Alternative Paradigm for Sustainable Development in Awassa, Ethiopia” was accepted for publication in Ecological Economics. Second-year MPA students Mari Hickman and Michael Foote made it to the final round of this year’s Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition (GSEC) at the Foster School of Business with a project called MiNGO focused on financially supporting NGOs in Latin America by creating a network of former international volunteers similar to how college alumni organizations work.
