Case Writing Workshop
Tuesday, August 17 - Wednesday, August 18, 2010
Washington, D.C. Metro Area

Gain the skills to take a case study idea and turn it into a teaching resource for students in public policy and management and in government training programs.

The Recovery Act Case Writing Workshop will engage participants by providing an introduction to case method and a case writing toolkit that covers researching and developing a case, elements of a good case, and creating a teaching note. From the first draft to the review process, this workshop guides participants through the process of writing effective and valuable teaching cases that will be available on the Electronic Hallway website. Participants come away with a deeper understanding of how to utilize case writing techniques to evoke a more robust analysis of the case topic in the classroom.

What is the Case Method?

A teaching case is a story, often based on actual events, that allows for interactive classroom discussions of the dilemmas faced by leaders and managers in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

By analyzing real-world situations, students apply theory and frameworks they learn in class, and can begin to think and behave as practicing professionals in the roles they will assume after leaving their school or training program.
